>>Frequently Asked Questions on the ES1200™
Q: How Does the Energenie AB-PF Unit Work?
A: The Energenie AB-PF Unit reduces the amount of power drawn from the utility by storing (in its capacitors) otherwise lost electricity (watts) caused by the inductive motors in your home. (Some examples of inductive motors are Air Conditioning units, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, pool pumps, vacuum cleaners, furnace blower motors, fans etc.) The technology applied by the Energenie Unit supplies that stored electricity back to your inductive loads, thus causing you to decrease your demand from the utility. If you decrease your demand from the utility, your meter slows down, and you use less electricity. The thought is, you’ve already paid for that electricity, why pay for it and waste it when you can pay for it, store it, and reuse it again. This whole process is called power factor optimization.
Q: Does the Energenie AB-PF 1/200 work in any home?
A: Yes it does, as long as you have a circuit breaker panel with breaker switches and not the old screw in type fuses, the unit will work on any single-phase electric application for homes.
Q: Do you have a 3-phase Energenie for businesses available yet?
A: Yes. Our 3-phase unit has just passed UL labs testing for certification. There is a 200 amp and a 400 amp model, called the Energenie AB-PF 3/200 and the Energenie AB-PF 3/400 respectively.
Q: Will the Energenie AB-PF 1/200 affect any of my appliances and their normal use?
A: No, if anything, your motors will run about 10% cooler, which is good for a motor because heat is the enemy of a motor.
Q: Is the Energenie AB-PF 1/200 tested and approved by independent labs?
A: Yes, the Energenie AB-PF 1/200 is UL listed and tested, and has also been tested by the University of Santa Clara California’s Electrical Engineering department. Also, the technology is recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy.
Q: How much can I expect to save per month by using the Energenie AB-PF 1/200?
A: That depends on many factors. The size of your home, the amount of inductive motor load, and the amount you are paying per kilowatt-hour for electricity etc. However, generally speaking users of the product have seen up to 25% in reduced consumption.
Q: How long will it take for the Energenie AB-PF 1/200 to pay for itself?
A: That depends on how much energy you consume and the rate you are paying per kilowatt-hour. Since the cost of the Energenie AB-PF 1/200 is constant, it is apparent that your Energenie AB-PF 1/200 will pay for itself faster if you consume more power or pay higher kilowatt-hour rates. Generally about 6-18 months, but again, the above factors apply, some will see sooner (6 months), some will see later (18 months).
Q: Is the Energenie AB-PF 1/200 easy to install?
A: We recommend installation by a professional electrician. The unit is straightforward for any licensed electrician to install. In some instances, where electrical panel is located in a conspicuous indoor location, additional work may be required.
Q: How long will the Energenie AB-PF 1/200 last?
A: It has a predicted lifespan of up to 20 years.
Q: Why haven’t I heard of this product until now?
A: That’s easy, two words “cost effectiveness”. Up until recently, electric rates throughout America were cheap, costing us 2, 3 or 4 cents per kilowatt-hour. Now, electric rates are 8, 10, 12, 14, and 19 and in some cases New York City is 22 cents per Kwh, and Hawaii is 33.5 cents per Kwh. Why do they charge more? Well....because they can. At the cheaper rates the Energenie AB-PF 1/200 didn’t make sense to most people, but at the current rates, it makes all the sense in the world. Now you can take some action.
Q: What is the Energenie AB-PF 1/200 Surge Protection?
A: The Energenie AB-PF 1/200 also protects the entire home against power surges. No longer a need for so many surge protectors in the home. Energenie AB-PF 1/200 provides a broad range of protection for hardwired appliances and most home electronics such as televisions, satellite equipment, entertainment systems, etc. The unit protects from power line surges as well as spikes caused by internal wiring problems, loose connections and fluctuating demand from large motors such as appliances, vacuum cleaners, heating and cooling equipment, etc.
Q: Is the Energenie AB-PF 1/200 Unit Warranted?
A: Yes, 5 year Manufacturers Warranty for full replacement.
Q: Is there a “Money Back Guarantee”?
A: Yes, 60-day money back guarantee. If in 60 days, you don’t see reduction in usage on your electric bill, call us and let us know, and we’ll give you details on how to return the unit for a full refund of the purchase price. Installation cost will not be refunded.
